11+ Acoustic Guitar Action Height Mm
Since I do this every day I set the nut action by feel but it can be measured.
For acoustic guitars our recommendation bumps up to 764th of an inch 278mm on the bass side and 564th of an inch 198mm on the treble side. Customers call us every single day asking how to adjust usually lower the action on their acoustic guitar. The slight increase in action height gives an acoustic guitars strings more room to vibrate. Measuring at the 12th fret as in the photo the action height should be 26 mm for Steel String Acoustic guitar 18 for electric 20mm for bass and 3mm for a Classical.
There is a considerable amount of leeway in choosing the right action height depending on your instrument and playing style. High action on an acoustic guitar not only affects the intonation it can make the instrument difficult if not painful to play. The distance between the string and the 1st fret would nearly always be below 020 5 mm. Most acoustic guitars take 232 of an inch about 15 millimeters of action for the first string and 332 of an inch about 23 millimeters of action for the sixth string.
The fret most widely used for action measurements is the 12 th fret. String height at the nut should be as low as possible without causing open string buzz. Action measurements are typically taken using a ruler with its end sitting on top of the 12 th fret. When I am certain of the condition of the frets I set action at the nut as low as possible.
These are just rules of thumb of course. The action of an acoustic guitar refers to the height of its strings above the fretboard which is the area the fingers are placed to alter the pitch that the strings produce. Measure from the top of the fret to the bottom of the string. I have not measured one myself but I would expect these guitars to come in the middle range near 245 for the low E bass string and 186 or so for the high e treble string.
